Can Course Reserves remediate my digital course materials to meet the current accessibility standard (WCAG 2.1 AA)?

Answer

Like other departments on campus, Course Reserves is making a good-faith effort to improve the accessibility of course materials. However, remediation is highly time- and labor-intensive. As a result, our primary focus is on library-owned materials. Faculty must submit materials through the library’s Course Reserves service, and all submissions must comply with the Course Reserves Submission Policy (required, high-use items submitted via Canvas).

What We Can Do:

·      Remediate scanned materials from the library’s collections.

·      Provide basic alternative text (alt-text) for scholarly images, such as graphs, charts, and diagrams.

·      Work with vendors to resolve digital accessibility issues.

·      Locate alternative accessible formats when available.

·      Identify existing accessible versions of materials.

What We Cannot Do:

·      Remediate instructor-created materials (e.g., lecture notes, exams, homework solutions, including PowerPoint slides/slide decks).

·      Accommodate remediation requests with short notice.

If you have a student who requires specific accessibility accommodations, please contact Course Reserves directly so we can assist you in addressing their needs.
